Dr. Gunnar Gidion
Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter
Curriculum Vitae
Gunnar Gidion studied physics at the University of Potsdam where he graduated as "Diplom-Physiker" in 2011 and finished his PhD about violin acoustics, piezoelectric-polymer sensors and dielectric elastomer actuators in 2018.
Apart from that, he worked on a translation of a volume on music theory by Leonhard Euler from Latin to German and was the leader of the "Jazzchor Campus Golm" at the University of Potsdam.
Since August 2018 he works for the Electrical Instrumentation laboratory at the IMTEK.
Musical acoustics is still his main research interest: With the help of thin-film polymer sensors -- in addition to conventional methods -- new insight into the vibrations of musical instruments can be gained. Moreover, especially for bowed string instruments, the interaction between the player and the musical instrument adds many fascinating aspects. With sensors on the bow as well as on the instrument, it becomes possible to investigate this player-instrument feedback.
