Ardavan Shabanian, M.Sc.
Doktorand - Polymerpumpen
CV
Having received his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Ardavan Shabanian began his M.Sc. studies in Microsystems Engineering at the University of Freiburg. With a focus on Microfluidics, he finished his studies in April 2014 with a master thesis on extraction of bacterial DNA from whole blood in the LabTube cartridge, in the Laboratory for MEMS Applications. Within this work, 2D and 3D centrifugal microfluidic cartridges (namely LabDisk and LabTube) were developed to perform specific bioassay of extracting the targeted bacterial DNA from whole blood samples.
Since June 2014 he pursues his PhD degree at the Laboratory for the Design of Microsystems. Within his PhD he developed a novel microfluidic device which is a high-performance micro-Valve-Pump. Due to the high market relevance of this developed technology for various industrial and medical applications, he formed a team of 4 members and took part in the Exist-Transfer of Research program of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), to transfer this technology from the research level to the market level. His project, muVaP was successfully approved with around one million euro of start-up grant, one of the largest EXIST grants to date at the University of Freiburg. Since April 2019 he works as a project manager to bring this technology to market maturity through founding a start-up company.
