Projects
CFD- and Through-Plane Modelling of PEM FuelCells (FC-CAT)
Project description
The aim of the project is the development of a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software for fuel cells coupled with central electrochemical reactions on the cathode and anode in the required level of detail, heat generation and heat transport and liquid water formation and 2-phase transport. The model is intended to reflect different geometries of the flow field and different materials, in particular for the porous layers of a fuel cell. In addition, the model should be able to map dynamic load cycles. The IMTEK is mainly concerned with the ex-situ characterization of relevant materials for fuel cell simulation. Different methods are used, from tomographic reconstruction via FIB-SEM, CT or TEM to Raman-imaging to find valid descriptors for the material properties.
