Projects
Protein electrophoresis in open microfluidics (PRINTOMik)
Project description
The „PRINTOMik“ project aims at the development of an innovative tool for protein electrophoresis in an automated and miniaturized manner. By utilizing an open microfluidic platform, the novel approach saves time and consumables and overcomes the need for tedious manual handling. This technology will pave the way for novel applications in analytics and diagnostics. A digital printing technology will be used to create open microfluidic structures that allow for high-resolution protein electrophoresis and subsequent immunological characterization of the electrophoretically separated proteins. This highly innovative platform technology will considerably simplify the protein electrophoresis workflow in biochemical analytics and medical diagnostics. Moreover, the miniaturized design will significantly reduce the consumption of valuable reagents and will allow for analyzing extremely low sample volumes, thereby providing promising interfaces to single cell analytics and mass spectrometry.
