Projects
Intelligent photonic tissue detection and ablation system

Project description
Photonic sensors enable a new minimally-invasive treatment for obesity with advantages for patients and doctors.
The goal of this joint BMBF project is the development of a novel surgical procedure which allows endoscopic treatment of obesity by performing Argon Plasma Ablation (APC) of the stomach's mucosa.
As part of this project, IMTEK is developing a set of photonic sensors that will guide the surgeon and monitor key parameters during the treatment, thus reducing the risk for the patient and allowing for first time an ambulant treatment of obesity and associated diseases.
