Vita
Martin Trotter studied Medical Engineering at Furtwangen University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 2009. After a short period as a research assistant at Hahn-Schickard Villingen-Schwenningen, he studied Microsystems Engineering at the University of Freiburg. He received his M.Sc. degree with a thesis on "Digital solid-phase PCR in picowell arrays to generate DNA colonies for sequencing" that he wrote at the Laboratory for MEMS Applications.
Subsequently, he worked in different functions and projects at Hahn-Schickard Freiburg, where he contributed to the developments of droplet-based digital PCR and developed and optimized hot embossing processes for the production of polymeric test cartridges. Currently, his interest is focused on the development of molecular diagnostic tests for mobile, near-patient use, e.g. in mobile care. For this purpose, he is researching and developing electrochemical detection methods for DNA amplification. The envisioned integral system is miniaturized and allows fail-safe user-interaction. Another important goal is the rapid adaptability of the cartridge and the assay for different pathogen panels.
