Projects
Mechanical sensing using magnetic shape memory (MSM) alloys
Project description
We conduct research on magnetic shape memory alloys with a focus on their application in sensors measuring mechanical properties. The main contents of the alloys are nickel, manganese and gallium. First, the materials are generally characterized, then concepts for innovative concepts for new sensors are developed, realized and evaluated. We have already successfully demonstrated strain and pressure sensing based on the alloy NiMnGa. The project is funded by the Germany ministry of education and research (BMBF) under grant no. 13N10059.
