Projects
The engineered eyeball

Project description
This project combines two devices which have been developed at the Micro-optics laboratory. A tunable solid body elastomeric lens deformed by an artificial muscle actuator tunes the focus. A tunable iris, based on electrowetting or artificial muscle technology, adjusts brightness and depth of focus of the imaging system. A specially optimized fixed lens system provides high imaging quality and is adapted to the capabilities of the tunable components. The whole optical system is assembled in a compact eyeball like housing.
